HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Wounded Knee Development Project was founded in 2003 and depends solely on the support of individuals, corporations, and organizations to help carry out the critical services and programs the project will be providing to the families of Wounded Knee. We are a tax exempt 501C-3 organization so all contributions are tax deductible. Here are some ways you can help out.

Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated and are put to good use. We are seeking immediately 250,000 dollars to complete the interior of the Wounded Knee's Cultral/ Community Center. The Centers exterior was completed in 2003 and remains unfinished due to lack of funding.

The center will include a full size interior basketball court, office space, musuem and gathering place for the people. This center lies of the heart of the communities concern which are the children. Suicide, drug and achol abuse, gang fights and sheer poverty are taking the lives of Native American children every day. Because of a lack in anything constructive, entertaining, educational, or time consuming to do, violence has taken precidences. Your help is needed. If 250 thousand people donate one dollar numerous lives can be saved today.

To make a contribution by check or money order (Please do not send money in the mail) make it payable to:

And mail the contribution to the following address:

LINACHISE

PO Box 427
Shirley NY 11967
631-772-8316

MAJOR CORPORATE FUNDING/ASSISTANCE:

Some corporations will make matching contributions for their employees. So please check with your company to see if that would be possible.

Other ways corporations could help us would be through donations of money, goods and or services directly to Linacase. We desperately need vans that are usable and dependable to transport the elderly and other community residents back and forth to the Pine Ridge Reservation on a daily basis for food shopping and Doctorís appointments. These vehicles will be driven by authorized drivers working for the TANIF or TWEP programs in a vehicle transport service at specific times throughout the day resembling a taxi or bus service and will be provided to the community free of charge.

Companies that have excess computer equipment and office supplies could also donate them to the community project. We will always want to upgrade present equipment. Office equipment like Fax machines, telephones, desks and so on would be welcome. The community currently has nothing.

SUPPORT ACTIVITIES: Always there is a need for sports equipment and playground items. We are very interested in organizing teams for baseball, basketball, football, and any other sports event. Perhaps you would like to volunteer some of your time to come and coach and teach these young people during the summer months.

Please contact the above listed address via regular mail channels if you have the time and/or any ideas that you would like them to know about and you think would be helpful. Right now they do not have computers or a phone system setup to contact them directly, but we are hoping to have those items ready to go soon. It will all depend on the support received over the next few months.

Support from those who wish to help us help the people of Wounded Knee now in their current hour of greatest need will be graciously accepted and very much appreciated. Thank you.

'Ode to the U'

My friends, there is strength in numbers..........
Consider the 'U'..........
The 'U' that divides, and discriminates
My brother, my sister..........my 'U.'

The 'U' like the star of the Holocaust..........
Of the German against the Jew.
The 'U' in the blud .........   guised Unity?
Keeping you, from loving you.

Brother against brother........
Pitted by the scraps.........
Of another's vicious vision
With lives, they're 'shooting craps'.

Ahhhhhh the master plan...........
Dissension from within.............
Its creators sitting back.........
With horns and eyes that grin........

Controlling lives and destinies...........
Feeding the constant spin.
The 'U' that says, 'more or less than'........
Beneath a common 'Skin'

Pedigreed....... like livestock........
Branded at your birth.............
Corralled like cattle..........
To question 'what's the worth?'

My friends the days are numbered
With the 'Elders'........go the ways
The days of the mighty Red Man
As the 'Chicken Dance' is played.

Keep the people pitted.......
By the numbers, and alone.........
Keep the People hungry..........
To throw them only bones..........

Keep the people lonely
With sadness and despair
Keep the People Labeled
Leaving nothing to repair........

Soon my friends you'll see..............
That the Black Hills will be gone
And the heart of Mother Earth
Will sing your woeful song............

Remembering the old days
and the way it used to be........
Dancing with the Spirits
Then Cut down at the 'Knee'

Your Chieftains will be sellouts,
Your struggle will be done........
Your way of life, in books .......remembered
The hunt, the kill, the run..........

People!!!!  'Daylights Burning'
We near the sunset of our times.........
Worlds, and thoughts are churning
Yours..........and theirs...........and mine.

So I say to you in truth........my friends.........
as to the bottom of the barrel you are rendered,
Time has come .........Time is up
Solidarity .........or Surrender!

             In Peace.............Barb Nixon
