John & Mary Hollow Horn  At Red Shirt Table
A Gathering of the Clans – 1930
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
Presented by
Elizabeth & Bernadette Hollow Horn

It was once written “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. But teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime."
Linachise (La- Na- Chi -Say) is a Not-for-Profit organization founded in 2001; to help meet the social, educational, and economic developmental needs of the Native American Indian communities Nationwide.
Our main goals are to aid and protect "The People" , in the conservation and preservation of their cultural, historical, and traditional ways of life.

We are seeking assistance to "Help the people to help themselves" of all nations, through their own economic development iniatives.

The people of Native America want to preserve whatever land, and traditions, that they have left.
The People do not want large corporations or government agencies to come into their communities and destroy what little heritage and ways of life that they cherish; by initiating, installing or implanting high powered corporate development . The people know, 'that will be the end of all that is Traditionally Native American'.
Native America is crying out for help "Don't forget us as a People, Respect us for the People that we are. We are still here, and we need your help to help ourselves ...........in this, your brave new world";
The People wish to simply maintain their privacy and dignity as human beings, and be permitted to thrive in their own ways, at their own pace, and to the beat of their own drum.
There is a 'call to arms' to assist Native America to establish a self-sustaining way of life, and a means to rise out of poverty.

This will take time....... a lot of volunteers, and of course financial aid.

The Wounded Knee Economic Development Project, as well as all projects to come have been established as a workfare programs. Meaning that all proceeds from donations will be distributed directly to the people of Native America who are willing to work within the programs financial availability and guides. Needy families, working in conjunction with their tribal governments in 'workfare' programs to build the economic base that they so desperately need will receive assistance to meet their needs and to seed their dreams.

Small business, which is the backbone of any community can and will rise from despair.

The people need to regain their dignity and self-respect. A great Nation and race of people that are falling by the wayside. The People are falling away at the hands of Mainstream Corporate America and, unfortunately themselves. The "Silent annialation" that has occurred throughout Native America for the past 500 years has programmed The People to be dependant on the United States Government and the "Great White Father" for all that is 'good' ; from the jobs that are available to the food that is eaten. Everything has been strategically orchestrated to produce failure.

The people have lost some of their own resoursefullness and sense of self reliance. Their self confidence has been shaken, and with every generation the traditions are changing towards waiting on the moo and baa lines for poverty created by the establishment.
Time has come to stop this silent annialation and to let the voices of despiration speak loud and clear.

UPDATE

The Wounded Knee Economic Development Project, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reserve, South Dakota
One of the most economically depressed communities on the poorest reserve in the country, We as a group had made many strides in assisiting the people of Wounded Knee. They as a community called out for help, and we as a group responded. We gave them all that they asked for and more. They asked for help in building their Community Center; we did so, and in seeing additional need for economic development we opened up a community store for them to own and run by themselves. Also a Childrens Movie theatre was established for the youth, dropping the crime rate the first week by 90% the first week that it was opened according to OST Police, but all has been destroyed since we left.

The lack of comprehension by the people of the bigger picture economically, hunger and utter poverty promoted desention against each other threatening a violent takeover of the store,so it was closed along with the Childrens theatre.

Despite the loss economically, a level of awareness has been raised and a sense of 'yes we can' among some of the people has been established.
